Schiedel provide chimney systems for both internal and external chimney breasts. In the case of the internal chimney the chimney is always within the walls of the house and the chimney breast is in the room.
For the external chimney the chimney is taken to the outside of the house and the fire opening is flush with the internal wall. This saves space in the room. In the main the Schiedel Chimney Systems are designed for standard fire openings. This is 500x500mm once the fireback has been added or 600mm wide beforehand. This fire opening requires a 200mm flue. Systems are however available for larger fire openings that will require 250mm & 300mm flue diameters.
Advice on determining the flue size required for a fire opening can be found in the building guidelines in technical advice.
The Schiedel Chimney System is suitable for all construction methods - timber frames, masonry and steel frames.
Where separate solutions have been developed for timber or masonry/steel the two options will be shown at the bottom of the diagram. Click on your selected option to see a full size printable version of the drawing.
